Latin later became the most powerful type of culture, and Rome was a powerful place in 350 B.C. The Roman Empire later took over Western Europe and the Mediterranean for many centuries. After the fall of Rome in A.D. 476, Italy became broken up. Parts of Italy were given to the Spanish, the Austrian, and Napoleon I’s empire.
