1 “So near & yet so far” – Lk.15:25-32 1.Staying at home The older son :- a. Did not disrespect his father b. Stayed at home & worked hard The Pharisees/teachers of the law a. Studied the O.T. b. Worked hard to keep God’s commands c. Were faithful worshippers

2 2. Being near & yet so far The older son was also lost a.His relationship with his father - No joy in being at home - More concerned with his father’s gifts b. His relationship with his brother - Does not care his brother is lost - Angry at the welcome of his brother

Being near & yet so far The Pharisees also lost:- a.No relationship with God - they don’t receive Jesus – Lk.16:14 - they try to earn God’s salvation – Lk.18:9 - they don’t have the same heart as God b. No relationship with lost sinners - they don’t seek the lost - they don’t rejoice in the lost coming home

4 3. How to come home a.Recognize you are lost b.Come home to God & receive his gifts of forgiveness & a relationship with him

5 4. The joy of being home a.The freedom of being dependent on God b.The joy of knowing & working with God c.A love for the lost

6 5. Vital questions a.Have you come home? b.What evidence is there of you having come home? Serious warning in Mt.7:21-23 c. Do you want to come home today?
