Impairment vs. Disability vs. Handicap n Impairment: a medical condition that affects one’s normal abilities (i.e.understand speech). n Disability: actual or presumed reduction in the ability to remain employed at full wages. Degree of disability determines compensation paid. n Handicap: a less exact term, often used to imply a person’s ability to understand speech under everyday circumstances considering the hearing loss in BOTH ears.
