What is a Reimbursable Lunch?

Why is it important for you to only serve a reimbursable lunch?
The Oregon Department of Education will only reimburse the district for meals that meet certain criteria. These meals are called “reimbursable meals.”

What food groups must be offered daily for a reimbursable Lunch?
Meat/Meat Alternate : 1-2 ounce (Grades K-8) ounce (Grades 9-12) Meat alternate: non-meat items that contain protein example: yogurt, peanut butter, cheese 2. Grain: 1 serving = 1 slice of bread, ½ cup pasta or rice, 1 roll Vegetables: ¾ cup (Grades K-8) 1 cup (Grades 9-12) 4. Fruit: ½ cup (Grades K-8) and 1 cup (Grades 9-12) Milk: ½ pint (8 fluid ounces) The correct portion size must be offered! Food purchased must meet minimum requirements. Ck Produced items, sandwiches etc. It is important for sandwiches to meet the meat requirements. Age groups have different meat requirements. We have option to serve less protein on some days.

What is a reimbursable lunch using Offer vs. Serve (3 out of 5 rule)?
♦Students must select full portions of at least 3 of the 5 food group items offered. ♦ Students may decline food items. ♦ Adults must allow students to make their own choices without pressure to select certain foods. ♦ Students must take 1 serving of either a fruit or a vegetable in order for the meal to qualify as reimbursable.
