4 Temporary vs. Permanent Imports Different Requirements & Needs Temporary = U.S. Export and Re-Import Permanent = U.S. Export Only Documents Duties Taxes Cargo Insurance – Round-Trip vs. One-Way Temporary imports are not exempt from licensing, certification or documentation.

5 Temporary vs. Permanent Temporary import-exports for commercial purposes are subject to all the same rules and regulations of permanent imports. Temporary export documents such as ATA Carnets do not negate the need for export licenses or the need to adhere to export regulations. However, if you prepare and document a temporary import properly you can save time, hassle and money.

11 Selling Samples Overseas Under a Permanent (Consumption) Entry no additional import-export forms are required. For a Temporary Import, the entry becomes permanent: duties & taxes must be paid. Proof of payment of duties & taxes must be presented to foreign customs. Or, a claim under the carnet will occur.
