February School does enrolment Based on enrolment, staffing numbers are determined Teachers requesting Leaves of absence send requests to the Board

March Principal meets with Staff Council to discuss plans for next year. –Class make-ups –Options offered –Possible ways to use allotted staffing Staffing needs are established by category

March continued Based on staffing needs the school will have –Excess staff in a category Dropping enrolment, staff returning from LOA –Just the right number of staff –Vacancies to be filled Rising enrolment, retirements, requests for LOA

March staffing If there are vacancies, the teachers currently in the school may ask to fill a vacancy – (5-21.14) Now the school knows its excess positions and its vacant positions

Seniority Your seniority is based on your unbroken service with the board –It has nothing to do with what you are teaching –It is not lost while you are on recognized LOA It is used to determine who is excess to the needs of the school and who is excess to the needs of the board

School Excess If a school has excess teachers in a category –The teachers in that category with the least seniority will be declared excess to the needs of the school

Board Excess For each teacher excess to the needs of a school, the board will declare a teacher excess to the needs of the board –These teachers will be the teachers in the appropriate category with the least seniority –These are the teachers subject to bumping if necessary
