JUST ONE LIFE
3
MORE often than not, most of mankind behaves as though it has many lives just like the proverbial cat with ‘nine lives’. Life itself is not measured in numerical value as with numbers whether here on earth or in eternity. It is what we do with the life we have here now that will determine life then in eternity. If we have this at the back of our mind, how we live with every breath of life that comes each day will be greatly sharpened. It is what you do with your life NOW that counts and not what you hope or even want to do with it in the future. Your ‘hope for the future’ may not come because you do not really have control over life save the One who has given you life – Jn. 10:10b : ‘….I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.’

JUST ONE LIFE A story was told of a wealthy man who had all the good things of life but never cared he had just one life to live. He made provisions for a sumptuous living for the future and never thought of his one and only life just as some of us do. He brought down old barns and replaced them with new ones. Stored up so much for the future and told his soul to eat and be merry. He basked in his own abilities, wisdom, strength and pride but with no thought of having just one life. One fateful night, the Master demanded of that single life from him and that was the end of it all. His family, friends and associates wailed and finally gave him a befitting funeral. All this, however, never changed things. The man was dead and gone forever.

JUST ONE LIFE Are you there, caught in same web like this man? God loves you and wouldn’t want you to go through and end life miserable. He wants to give your life meaning – Colossians 1:27 : ‘To whom God will make known the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.’ KJV Do not be deceived by the thought that whatever you do with your life doesn’t matter and after death, life ends there. You certainly give account of that one life someday – Hebrews 9:27 : ‘And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.’ The only thing that truly destroys a man’s life is sin and what truly gives meaning t a man’s life is Jesus Christ the emblem of righteousness – ‘For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ’. Romans 6:23. Ask Him to add meaning to your life as you confess and repent of your sins, inviting Him into your life as Lord and Saviour. And do not forget: you have just one life.
