H.E. Anderson Company Maintenance Tip How to Replace a Chemical Side Diaphragm This presentation will show you how to change a chemical side diaphragm on an H.E. Anderson pumper. There are several capacities of pumpers. The model A3 and T4 pumpers differ from other pumpers If you have an A3 or T4 pumper, please refer to How to... Replace a chemical side diaphragm on an A3 or T4 pumper presentation. Be sure to observe necessary precautions when dealing with corrosive and dangerous chemcials. You should always check with local requirements as to the proper attire. This presentation will show you step by step, the removal and replacement of the chemical side diaphragm.

How to... R eplace a chemical side diaphragm To make things easier, you should first remove the pumper from the water motor or manifold and take it to a work table. You should also remove the chemical check valves. Be sure not to drain your chemical tank when you remove the suction tubing. Chemical will be present. Please take the necessary precautions. Rinse all the chemical from the pumper. To replace the diaphragm you will need the following tools: ● Flat screwdriver ● #1? Phillips screwdriver ● Pliers ● Allen wrench Step 1 of 5 Pumper removed from water motor or manifold

How to... R eplace a chemical side diaphragm We will need to remove the plastic, round pumphead from the pumper. Do this by removing the six(6) or eight(8) pumphead screws (may be either phillips or flathead). The plastic head should come right off. If not, take a small rubber mallet and gently tap on the side of the plastic pumphead. This will expose the chemcial side diaphragm. Pumper shown with pumphead removed Step 2 of 5

How to... R eplace a chemical side diaphragm We will now remove the diaphragm. Turn the dial setting to 5. (This will push the chemical diaphragm out for easier access.) Simply unscrew the diaphragm. If the threaded stud comes out with the diaphragm, use pliers to hold the stud and unscrew the stud from the diaphragm. You may re-use the stud in the new diaphragm. It would be wise to use some Anti-seize or equivalent to prevent the stud threads from becoming corroded and siezed. NOTE: The stud may remain in the the water diaphragm. If so, leave it there. How to... R eplace a chemical side diaphragm We will now install the new diaphragm. Screw in the new diaphragm using the threaded stud. Tighten the diaphragm until it stops. If the screw holes are not aligned, unscrew the diaphragm until they do. Turn the dial setting to 10. (This will pull the chemical diaphragm in for easier installation of plastic pumphead.) How to... R eplace a chemical side diaphragm Replace the plastic pumphead. Take note of the position of the chemical valve connection(s). Gently snug the screws. Now tighten the screws in a criss-cross pattern. You are now finished with changing the chemical side diaphragm. Although the pumper should be close in calibration, you should still check to make sure. Refer to the owners maual or the calibration presentation to calibrate the pumper.
