What was his background He was born in Mongolia in 1167 AD Given the name Temujin meaning blacksmith His father was killed when he was 9 He killed his half brother for stealing food

Was he a butcher? He slaughtered the tribe who killed his father He made an example of the first city he captured His armies attacked the Jin dynasty after they appeared to betray him

Was he a military genius? He laid the foundations for the largest land empire in human history His armies defeated larger forces of better equipped soldiers It is understood that he once claimed he was a punishment from God

Where is he now? No-one knows Anyone who saw his funeral procession was killed To this day, his grave has not been found

What did he achieve? By the age of 40, he controlled all of Mongolia, an area about the size of Alaska He established the first written language in Mongolia Captured a large part of China Destroyed the Khwarazim empire Successfully invaded Russia

How did he achieve all of this? He was born clutching a clot of blood, a sign of courage and victory Son of a tribal chief so he was well versed in military tactics He was abandoned at the age of 9 by his tribe, so he learnt how to survive He used hit and run tactics to draw his enemies into traps
