6. DAY 6 – Walking Surfaces/Stairways What you need for DAY 6: Clear aisles and passageways. Level floors, no holes or obstacles. Clearly marked walkways. Guardrails on stairways and elevated working surfaces. Fall protection where needed. 7’ of head room in aisles and stairs.

7. DAY 6 - Walking Surfaces/Stairways This pallet is in a walking aisle. It is an obstacle to people moving about or evacuation in case of an emergency.

8. DAY 6 - Walking Surfaces/Stairways At this construction site floors are covered with broken glass and electric cables, creating a tripping hazard.

9. DAY 6 - Walking Surfaces/Stairways This stairway to a workstation has steps cluttered with debris from lumber processing. A slip, trip or fall is likely to happen here.

10. Guardrails This elevated working surface (above 4 ft.) doesn’t have a guardrail on the open side.

11. Marked Walkways If you have forklifts or vehicles operating in your facility, dedicated pedestrian walkways should be clearly marked.

13. DAY 7 – Lighting What you need for DAY 7: Sufficient lighting in the work areas; day and night. Adequate security lighting in the parking area. Temporary lighting (when used) protected from breakage.

14. DAY 7 – Lighting Lighting in the stairwell is insufficient and poses a risk for trips and falls when workers walk down it.

15. DAY 7 – Lighting This worker at a sawmill regularly needs to sort lumber boards. Lighting is not adequate for him to see where he is stepping.

20. Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) Manufacturers and suppliers of products containing chemicals are required to provide you with MSDSs when you purchase the product. The MSDS must be kept in a location or on a computer that employees have easy access to. Your training should include how to read an MSDS – how to find information on chemical hazards and personal protective equipment.

32. DAY 10 – Portable Ladders Portable ladders are a piece of equipment used in almost any workplace: office, factory, shop, orchard, store, etc.
