Killing the goose that laid the golden egg One day a poor farmer went to the nest of his goose and found a shining yellow egg. When he picked it up it was very heavy. He thought it was strange, so he took it home and found that it was an egg of pure gold. Every morning the goose laid a golden egg, and the farmer grew rich by selling them. As he grew rich he grew greedy; he wanted to get all the gold at once, so he killed the goose and opened it. There wasn’t any gold, just a dead goose.
