2 ADJECTIVES ENDING IN -ED AND -ING

3 a) Sonu -ed, -ing ile biten pek çok sıfatlarlar vardır. Örneğin; interesting, interested, boring, bored gibi. Sonu -ed ile biten sıfatlar insanlar için kullanılır ve insanların içlerinde hissettikleridir. - I am interested. (İlgiliyim, ilgi duyuyorum.) - She is bored. (onun canı sıkkın.) - They are surprised. (Onlar şaşkın.)

4 b) Sonu -ing ile biten sıfatlar ise hem insanlar hem de nesneler için kullanılabilir. Genelde bizim dışarıdan algıladıklarımızdır. - Her job is very interesting. (Onun işi çok ilginç.) - She is a very boring person. (O çok sıkıcı bir kişi.)

5 Aşağıdaki cümleleri inceleyelim; Someone is surprised because something is surprising. Someone is disappointed because something is disappointing. Someone is tired because something is tiring.

6 c) Sonu -ing ve -ed ile biten diğer sıfatların listesi aşağıdadır. amazing - amazed amusing - amuzed annoying - annoyed astonishing - astonished confusing - confused depressing - depressed disgusting - disgusted embarrassing - embarrassed exciting - excited exhausting - exhausted horrifying - horrifyed fascinating - fascinated frightening - friightened terrifying - terrified shocking - shocked worrying - worried satisfying - satisfied

7 Compare these examples:(Bu örnekleri karşılaştırın) interesting Julia thinks politics is very interesting. interested Julia is very interested in politics. (not `interesting in politics') interesting Did you meet anyone interesting at the party? interested Are you interested in buying a car? I'm trying to sell mine.

8 surprising It was quite surprising that he passed the examination. surprised Everybody was surprised that he passed the examination. disappointing The film was disappointing. I expected it to be much better. disappointed I was disappointed with the film. I expected it to be much better. shocking The news was shocking. shocked We were very shocked when we heard the news.

9 Alıştırmalar(cevaplar aşağıda) A: Cümleleri tamamlayın. Gerilen kelime + -ing ya da –ed kullanın. 1-- The film wasn't as good as we had expected. I enjoyed it. 4-- It's sometimes embarrassing / embarrassed when you have to ask people for money. 5-- Do you easily get embarrassing / embarrassed? 6 --I had never expected to get the job. I was really amazing / amazed when I was offered it.

12 7-- She has really learnt very fast. She has made astonishing / astonished progress. 8 --I didn't find the situation funny. I was not amusing / amused. 9-- It was a really terrifying / terrified experience. Afterwards everybody was very shocking / shocked. 10-- Why do you always look so boring / bored? Is your life really so boring / bored? 11-- He's one of the most boring / bored people I've ever met. He never stops talking and he never says anything interesting / interested.
