4. Life in the UK My life in the UK was great, until my parents lost their jobs. Before that I had good food, a good bed, a good everything. When they lost their jobs I was taken from my home and spent the rest of my days in Scotland with my Aunt Beatrice. There I was not treated well, my Aunt Beatrice was the only relative that I had. She was not the type of person who liked children either. She would whack me when ever I started to cry or get sick or anything she didn’t like. The only reason I lived was that she was too close to my mother that she didn’t want to hurt her. After almost three years with Aunt Beatrice I was put on a ship to Canada. And that was my life in the UK.

5. The Trip

6. On The Trip Life on the ship for 3 1/2 weeks wasn’t too bad the only thing was, we had to get up at 6:30 to run. Other than that it was not bad. Although I didn’t like going to bed at 8:00 when I usually went to bed at 10:00 with Aunt Beatrice. And when every one went to one side of the boat and the waves got in, that wasn’t to fun either. When we arrived in Canada we where in Halifax, but we didn’t get to see much of it because as soon as we got off the boat we where on the train. The train ride was the best part about the trip. We got to see a bunch of trees and houses so different then Scotland. After about to days on the train my trip was over.

8. Early Life in Canada After I got off the train we all went in a huge room and sat down. Then a man called out names and sent those people with their new master(s). When we arrived at my new home, I was just told my schedule and sent outside to work for the rest of the day. The rest of that time I had to get up at 6:00 am to work, then get some toast. Then I worked the rest of the day (unless I had school). In that work time I had to, cut the grass, harness the horses, and pickup vegetables. At 3:00 pm we would get some food then we would work un till 9:00 or whenever it got dark. If we did any thing out of line we would be punished. (The punishment would depend on the farmers mood.)

10. Later life in Canada Once I left that family it was the happiest day of my life. I could Finally stop being treated so badly and go to university. After two years of university I had a choice of being a sales person, or a hotel bell hop. Soon after I worked at “The hotel” in Ottawa and in a few years I was the manager. Got married, had kids, and after that experience I know exactly how to treat them. (Good, with no violence what so ever. And not to work them like a pack mule.)
