Author Power Statements

Reading Read the assigned text for understanding and comprehension the first time. Go back to the text and find quoted examples supporting the assigned topic for that text. Using your power Verbs list you will construct author power Statements for each example following the template.

Template Author name (last only) + Appropriate Power Verb and identifying phrase + technique or device used by author + transitional statement (when, by, in order to) + example quoted from the text and document using MLA parenthetical technique (page number)

Example Prose highlights the differences and accentuates what students prefer between popular television and classic literature due to “the dreariness with which literature [is taught] in many American classrooms” (89).
