Authors entertain us with their vivid imagination and their talent for writing.
We know many of their popular stories, but what do we really know about them?
Where did they come from?
What do they look like?
How do they come up with the ideas for their wonderful stories?
Is the author working on any new stories?

3. Tasks ~ Each task is explained in detail on the following slides.
You will research and find the answers the questions listed.
You will write a letter to Walter Dean Myers.
You will write a list of the books that Walter Dean Myers has written.
You will create a picture collage of Harlem in the 1930s – 1950s.
Bind all of your work in a self created “book” that you should dedicate to the author. Write a dedication to the author.
Create a cover for your “book.”

After you have recorded these books, choose one that you would like to read. Explain why this book sounds interesting to you. What connections can you make to this book that would make you want to read it?

7. Harlem Research Harlem during the 1930s – 1950s.
Create a picture/image collage of Harlem during this time period.
You can print pictures or draw pictures.
Remember a collage contains pictures that cover the entire paper.
Include this paper in your self created book.

8. Put it all together!
Bind all of your work in a self created “book” that you should dedicate to the author. Write a dedication to the author.
Create a cover for your “book.”
You should have a total of 5 pages in your book: dedication page, questions about Myers, letter to Myers, book list, and a Harlem collage.
