How does he use irony in the first sentence? What is the author really trying to say? How will the advice by the block leader increase the prisoners chance for survival (lines 38-55) We know tone is the authors attitude toward his reader or subject. It is created by the author’s choice of words and examples. Reread lines (38-40) “Slaughterhouses” What tone do these words create?

Authors often reveal their purpose through details in the text. Cite Textual Evidence: An important person in the block is the Blockalteste.
