MASTER TEACHER PROGRAM 2011 - 2012

MASTER TEACHER, 2011-2012 Per Ohio Senate Bill 2 and House Bill 1, the Educator Standards Board was charged with the responsibility to define a Master Teacher and to adopt criteria to use in determining whether a person is a Master Teacher. Effective 2011, the Master Teacher program will become part of the new licensure structure.

MASTER TEACHER, 2011-2012 Local districts have been charged with the responsibility of implementing the Master Teacher program through district determined procedures and guidelines developed and applied consistent with legislated and Ohio Department of Education guidelines.

MASTER TEACHER, 2011-2012 Interested area districts elected to create a consortium through the Montgomery County Educational Service Center to administer the Master Teacher program. All participating districts have teacher and administrative representation as well as National Board Certified teachers who will evaluate Master Teacher applications. This year, we welcome Kettering City Schools to our consortium.

MASTER TEACHER, 2011-2012 THE MASTER TEACHER A Master Teacher demonstrates excellence inside and outside of the classroom through consistent leadership and focused collabora- tion to maximize student learning. A Master Teacher strives for distinguished teaching and continued professional growth as specified by the Ohio Standards for the Teaching Profession.

MASTER TEACHER, 2011-2012 ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS Professional Teacher License/Certificate Has Taught for Seven Years or More Is Working Under a Teaching Contract Is Working a Minimum of 120 Days

MASTER TEACHER, 2011-2012 MASTER TEACHER APPLICATION PROCESS Submit Letter of Intent to submit a Master Teacher application by September 30, 2011 to the Montgomery County Educational Service Center. Attend one of two available information sessions on the Master Teacher application process and to receive your personal identification number. Submit the completed application with artifact evidence and two recommendations by November 11, 2011 or March 9, 2012. The required forms are available by going to the Montgomery County ESC at www.mcesc.org and clicking on Master Teacher.www.mcesc.org

MASTER TEACHER, 2011-2012 THE SCORING PROCESS Each of the five narrative components will be scored by teams of National Board Certified teachers. A score report will be provided to each applicant which includes written feedback. Artifact evidence will be returned to the applicant to be maintained for the duration of the Master Teacher designation.

MASTER TEACHER, 2011-2012 MASTER TEACHER DESIGNATION Effective for Five Years Is Transferrable Required for Senior Professional Educator or Lead Educator License May Reapply When Designation Expires

MASTER TEACHER, 2011-2012 IF YOUR APPLICATION IS NOT APPROVED... You may resubmit specific sections which did not meet scoring standards within the current school year. Candidates may reapply the following school year as well.
