New Teacher Mentoring Program North Greene High School

Purpose of Mentoring New teachers have many things to learn and many challenges to face. It is unfair for them to face it without support. Mentoring is one important mechanism for advancing the teaching profession as a whole.

North Greene Mentoring Plan New teachers will attend an orientation held prior to school starting Principal and/or Superintendent will meet regularly with new teachers A mentor will be assigned to each new teacher An end of the year conference will be held to determine the success of mentoring program Unofficial Mentoring will occur when a new teacher comes to high school with previous teaching experience

Mentor Responsibilities The mentor will keep a log that will be shared only with the teacher & mentor. It is not shared with administrator. This confidentiality improves the new teacher’s confidence and allows the teacher to feel free to ask anything. The log will be given to the new teacher at the end of the year as a resource of information.

Mentor Responsibilities The mentor will keep in contact with the Superintendent and/or principal and will work cooperatively with them to provide additional resources as may be necessary The mentor will meet with the teacher a minimum of 10 hours throughout the year. Additional time may be necessary and will be provided when necessary

Mentor Compensation Mentors will be compensated at $18.25 per hour
