4. Examples It seems as if it is going to rain. (There are clouds) I haven’t made a plan yet but it seems as if we will go to Marmaris for holiday. You look as if you are very tired. (because you are yawning) You look as if you didn’t sleep well last night. You look as if you have done your homework (because you look very relax.) The program is very heavy but you look as if you all can pass the exam.

5. Eğer ana cümlede past simple varsa ( it seemed…, it looked…etc.) as if’ten sonra present ya da future kullanamayız. Ancak kullanacağımız zamanı da bir derece past biçimiyle kullanmamız gerekir. It seemed as if it was going to rain. You looked as if you hadn’t slept well last night. You looked as if you had done your homework. 6. As if/though ile gerçek bir izlenimden değil de bir benzetmeden bahsediyorsak (imagination, unreal situations) yine bir derece past kullanılır ve ‘be’ fiili için de was yerine ‘were’ kullanılır. They are not my family but they treat as if I were their son. He speaks as if he knew everything. ( but he doesn’t know anyhing.) They always complain about lacking money as if they hadn’t got any money.

7. As if kullanılırken Real meaning (present) Unreal meaning (present/past) He looks as if he knows the answer. (real) He looks as if he knew the answer. (unreal) He talks as if he has watched the match. (real) He talks as if he had watched the match. (unreal)

8. Unreal bir ifadeden bahsederken ‘past tense’ kullanılması gerekir ancak ifadeyi biraz daha dramatik hale getirmek için ‘present tense’ de kullanılabilir. I am very happy. I feel as if I were/am flying over the clouds.

9. As if = like ‘As if’ yerine ‘like’ fiili de yaygın olarak kullanılır. I am very happy. I feel like I am flying over the clouds.
