On Demand Reassurances The test, scoring anchors and scoring training materials are very true to the Standards. In preparing students to write, pay attention to the specific skills addressed in the standards. There should be no On-Demand practice- rather practicing skills that lead to good strong writing in ANY situation. 13

Standards to watch Writing Standard 1 –Write arguments to support claims in an analysis of substantive topics or texts, using valid reasoning and relevant and sufficient evidence. –Goes back to close reading- go to the text for evidence. –Support from grade 7 on, the concept of addressing a couterclaim in an argument. 14

Standards to watch Writing Standard 3 –Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using Effective technique Well chosen details Well structured event sequence 15

Standards to watch Informational Reading Standard 7 –Integrate and evaluate content presented in diverse media and formats, including visually and quantitatively, as well as in words. Must intentionally teach students how to “read” information from a variety of charts and graphs, illustrations, diagrams, timelines, animations and interactive web elements. 16

Standards to watch Writing Standard 10 Write routinely –over extended time frames (time for research, reflection and revision) –Over shorter time frames (a single sitting or a day or two) for a range of tasks, purposes, and audiences Have students experience timed writing. 17

CIITS A tool to help teachers match targets, standards and assessments. Meant to be a repository of nationally normed bank items and teacher created items. As with any tool, use your professional judgment when applying items to your classroom. More items being added this year, aligned to the new ELA and Math standards. Goal is to support teaching and learning by putting everything in one place -

Issues Report When you have questions or concerns- use this form to report issues. The only way the bank will be better is if we work to make it work for us in the classroom.

Teacher Created Materials – 19 page booklet When you are ready to contribute to the resource for other teachers, in other words, lead by example. Follow directions in the booklet to submit instructional materials.
