Behavior Calendar The calendar is for a 2 week period and will let you know about upcoming events.

Writing Tips C.U.P.S. Capitals Understand Punctuation Spacing 2 Stars and a Wish! = 2 positive writing skills and 1 wish for next time.

Writing Rubric This will give each element of a written piece that students are expected to be able to create.

Homework Hangout The homework newsletter will be placed here each Monday. *All homework is due back on Friday.

Homework Hangout On the back of the homework newsletter will be that week’s assignments and activities.

The Parent Pipeline This is where you will find notes sent from school and this is where we ask you to place any notes from home, field trip forms, or money. *Please remember to place any money in an envelope or baggie with your child’s name and teacher.

High Frequency Sight Words At the beginning of the year you will find the kindergarten word list as a review. We will soon replace it with the first grade high frequency word list.

First Grade Sight Words When your child has shown mastery with the kindergarten word list they will begin working on the first grade list. Please review the word list each week with them.

One Hundred Chart This will remain in the binder throughout the year. Each week please review with your child. *Recognizing the numbers. *Writing the numbers *Skip counting by 10’s, 5’s, and 2’s *Counting on from one number to another *Addition and Subtraction practice

Super Star Work! This is where you will find the daily work your child has completed in class. Please look it over and discuss with your child. *Please keep these papers at home.*

Nightly Reader The book your child reads in class will be placed in the binder to go home each day. Your child is required to read every night and a parent or guardian needs to initial the reading log. Return daily to school.

Reading Log Please list the title of the book your child has read and initial. There is a comment section for you to correspond with the teacher. Please note that it isn’t uncommon to see the same book come home a couple nights in a row. That will help your child’s fluency.

Do’s For Your Take Home Binder! You will find this on the back of your child’s binder. This is a checklist of the ways the binder should be used and taken care of to help with your child’s success in first grade.
