Strategic Planning What is a strategic plan? What is it’s purpose? Why do it? What is learned from a strategic plan? Who should be involved in the process?

Vision Statement What is the purpose of your organization? Are you creating this with your organization’s values in mind? Are you offering direction? Is your statement inspiring? Concentrate on the future. This is not about what you want, this is about what you will give. Your statement should be a short paragraph, 3 to 5 sentences.

Mission Statement What is it? Does it reflect the purpose of the organization? Is it clear and simple? Will it keep you focused? Who creates the statement? Can your mission change?

Objectives How many should you have? Do your objectives support your mission? Are you using your SMARTs? Specific Measurable Achievable Realistic Time-bound Double check your SMARTs

SWOT Analysis S – Strengths What do we do that is great? W – Weaknesses What still needs work? O – Opportunities What are our potentials; our untried opportunities to move forward? T – Threats What gets in your way (funding, volunteers, other organizations, etc.)?

Action Plans What steps are needed to achieve our objectives? Each objective should have between 1 to 3 steps of action Must be more specific than your objectives
