1. Matthew 10:37 “He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me.”

2. Matthew 10:34-36 “Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword. For I have come to set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in- law’; and a man’s enemies will be those of this own household.”

3. Luke 9:57-62 “Lord, I will follow you wherever You go.” “Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.” “Lord, let me first go and bury my father.” “Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and preach the kingdom of God.” “Lord, I will follow You, but let Me first go and bid them farewell who are at my house.” “No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.”

4. Numbers 11:4-6 Now the mixed multitude who were among them yielded to intense craving (lit. lusted intensely); so the children of Israel also wept again and said, “Who will give us meat to eat? We remember the fish which we ate freely in Egypt, the cucumbers, the melons, the leeks, the onions, and the garlic; but now our whole being is dried up; there is nothing at all except this manna before our eyes.”

5. 1 Corinthians 10:5-6 But with most of them God was not well pleased, for their bodies were scattered in the wilderness. Now these things became our examples, to the intent that we should not lust after evil things as they also lusted.

6. Genesis 19:23-26 The sun had risen upon the earth when Lot entered Zoar. Then the L ORD rained brimstone and fire on Sodom and Gomorrah, from the L ORD out of the heavens. So He overthrew those cities, all the plain, all the inhabitants of the cities, and what grew on the ground. But his (Lot’s) wife looked back behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.

7. 2 Timothy 4:9-10; 1 John 2:15-16 Be diligent to come to me quickly; for Demas has forsaken me, having loved this present world, and has departed for Thessalonica... Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world.

8. Philippians 3:12-14 Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected, but I press on... Mark 8:34-35; Matthew 10:39 “Whoever desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. “For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel’s will save it.” “He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for My sake will find it.”

10. Matthew 10:32-33 “Therefore whoever confesses me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven. But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven.”

11. 1 Timothy 6:12 Paul instructed Timothy: “Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.”

12. Leviticus 18:5; Romans 10:5 Moses quoting God: “You shall therefore keep My statutes and My judgments, which if a man does, he shall live by them: I am the L ORD.” Speaking of law-righteousness as opposed to faith-righteousness, Paul says, “For Moses writes about the righteousness which is of the law, ‘The man who does those things shall live by them.’ ”

13. James 2:10; Gal. 3:10; Deut. 27:26 For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all. For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse; for it is written [in Deuteronomy 27:26], “Cursed is everyone who does not continue in all things which are written in the book of law, to do them.”
