2. Selena was born to Mexican American parents on April 16th 1971 in Lake Jackson Texas. She has a brother and a sister named Abraham and Suzette. Selena and her family joined into a band together called Selena y Los Dinos. The reason they formed this band was because their restaurant went bankrupt and they needed money. Forming the band gave Selena and her family fame and fortune. Selena had many hits as the years went by like Bidi Bidi Bom Bom and Ven Conmigo, Selena was loved by many people until her tragic death March 31, 1995.

3. A great addition to Selena and the band was Chris Perez, who briefly joined Los Dinos in He left a year later to try to make it on his own. After a brief separation from the band, he returned in Chris was a talented guitarist who eventually became Selena’s husband on April 2, 1992.

5. Selena’s Final Performance
Selena's last performance was on March 19, 1995, which took place as a charity concert at a high school to support "Just Say No to Drugs". Her last televised concert was at The Houston Astrodome on February 26, This legendary performance was thought to be her last concert, but it wasn’t. There were over 61,000 fans present at the Astrodome.

6. On March 31, 1995, Selena was killed by 34 year old Yolanda Salvador after being confronted by Selena and her family for embezzling money from the Selena Fan Club . It took police 9 ½ hours to get Yolanda to surrender after attempting to commit suicide. After she surrendered she was taken in custody by the police for questioning. Yolanda remains in jail today for the death of Selena.

Selena’s Boutique opened in Since her death, Selena Etc. Boutique and Salon, has shut its doors. It is believed that the store had to close due to the slow economy.
The for sale sign was put up in June 2009 with an asking price of $160,000. All of the merchandise has been moved out, but can be purchased from the gift shop inside of Selena’s Museum at Q Productions in Corpus Christi.
Selena’s father kept the store open 14 years after her death.

9. As a young child it was Selena’s dream to design clothes
As a young child it was Selena’s dream to design clothes. She had an eye for bright colors and flashy clothes.
In 1993, after years of creating her on stage designs, she decided to start her own clothing line at which time she opened her two boutiques to sell her clothes in.

10. Selena’s family continue to uphold her legacy by allowing the movie “Selena” to be made and taking part in the tribute concert “Selena VIVE that was held on April 7, 2007, 10 years after her death.
Although it is hard, her family has moved forward with their lives. Her father continues to oversee the family’s entertainment company Q Productions. Her mother does interior design for close family and friends. Her sister, Suzette was the overseer of the Selena Etc. Boutiques, and also opened her own store, MoonChild. Chris, Selena’s husband has his own band which won a Grammy for their album Resurrection. Finally, her brother, A.B has his own band called Kumbia Kings.
