Good Morning!
I am Dr. Lenora Cook, the Dean of Health Care Professions and Wellness at Johnson County Community College. Before I present the expected changes in health care, I would like to tell you about my pathway into health care. I grew up on a farm and while I enjoyed that life, I wanted to be a doctor. As I progressed through school, I did not have anyone experienced in higher education to help me prepare for entry into college. By the time I reached high school, I felt that medical school was out of my reach for a variety or reasons. I entered Colorado State University to begin m journey as a physical therapist. That adventure was short lived. My father was in a farming accident and my brother left for the Viet Nam war and I was needed to help the family.
Years later the desire to enter health care was still there. I entered a nursing program 60 miles from home. In addition to the commute, I had 2 teenage daughters to care for, school, and a job. I can tell you how fulfilling it was for me to have a profession that allowed me to truly make a difference the lives of other people. Once I completed my associates degree in nursing and entered the health care field, I felt like I needed to know more. I enrolled in a baccalaureate program for nursing, when I completed that, I still felt like I needed to know more, so I enrolled in a graduate program. After that my daughters said Mom when are you going to stop? I did for a while. While I was going to school I worked in a small rural hospital (which I loved) and an intensive care unit (which I loved). And then it happened!!!! I happened to see a former nursing instructor. She asked what I was doing. When I told her she very emphatically told me I needed to teach nursing. I gave it some thought and began my teaching career alongside my beloved nursing instructor. But know I needed to know how to teach so you guessed it I entered Colorado State University – this time it was for a doctorate in education and community college leadership.
I tell your this story because in my experience as a nurse and a nurse educator I know 3 things
Health Care is a very rewarding career – Almost daily you are told thank you for helping someone
There are a lot of students, like myself, that do not have the resources and family support to enter and successfully complete the educational process to become a health care professional.

Where is the greatest need? Why do you think these would be hard to fill?
A cardiovascular technician serves as a member of the cardiology team, performing cardiac catheterizations, angioplasty and electrophysiology. They assist physicians performing invasive cardiovascular procedures. Responsible for equipment during procedures, the cath lab tech monitors readouts, alerting the doctor to anything appearing abnormal. Read more : 
Histology Technician is an allied health professional who prepares tissue specimens of human and animal origin for a pathologist to examine fordiagnostic, research, or teaching purposes. Histologic technicians process sections of body tissue by fixation, dehydration,embedding, sectioning, decalcification, microincineration, mounting, and routine and special staining. Educationalpreparation is usually months for an associate degree.
Echo/Cascular technician conduct tests on pulmonary or cardiovascular systems of patients for diagnostic purposes. May conduct or assist in electrocardiograms, cardiac catheterizations, pulmonary-functions, lung capacity, and similar tests.

Study cognitive, emotional, and social processes and human behavior. An Industrial Organizational Psychologist observes how people relate to one another and their organizational environment.

Occupational therapy assistants and aides help patients develop, recover, and improve the skills needed for daily living and working. Occupational therapy assistants are directly involved in providing therapy to patients, while occupational therapy aides typically perform support activities. Both assistants and aides work under the direction of occupational therapists.
Duties
Occupational therapy assistants typically do the following:
Help patients do therapeutic activities, such as stretches and other exercises
Lead children who have developmental disabilities in play activities that promote coordination and socialization
Teach patients how to use special equipment; for example, showing a patient with Parkinson’s disease how to use devices that make eating easier
Record patients’ progress, report to occupational therapists, and do other administrative tasks
Occupational therapy aides typically do the following:
Prepare treatment areas, such as setting up therapy equipment
Transport patients
Clean treatment areas and equipment
Help patients with billing and insurance forms

What Physical Therapist Assistants and Aides Do
Most physical therapist assistants and aides work in offices of physical therapists, hospitals, and in a variety of settings that facilitate physical therapy.
Physical therapist assistants (sometimes called PTAs) and physical therapist aides work under the direction and supervision of physical therapists. They help patients who are recovering from injuries and illnesses regain movement and manage pain. Physical therapist assistants are involved in the direct care of patients. Physical therapist aides often do tasks that are indirectly related to patient care, such as cleaning and setting up the treatment area, moving patients, and performing clerical duties.
Duties
Physical therapist assistants typically do the following:
Observe patients before, during, and after therapy, noting their status and reporting to a physical therapist
Help patients do specific exercises as part of the plan of care
Use a variety of techniques, such as massage and stretching, to treat patients
Use devices and equipment, such as walkers, to help patients
Educate a patient and family members about what to do after treatment
Physical therapist aides typically do the following:
Clean treatment areas and set up therapy equipment
Wash linens
Help patients move to or from a therapy area
Do clerical tasks, such as answering phones and scheduling patients
