COOKING ON AN EXPEDITION

PRIORITIES Weight you have to carry everything you bring Nutritiontake things to provide energy Ediblemake sure that it will be ok on day 4! Facilitiesremember it must all be cooked on a single burner

BREAKFAST Cereal and milk Take cereal that won’t disintegrate Add powdered milk before you go Cooked course You can take Frankfurters or other things to cook but remember they won’t last for 4 days Drink

LUNCH You won’t have time to get the stove out so make it quick and easy Pitta / crispbread / tortillas Squeezy tubes of jam / creamed cheese / honey Dried fruit – raisins / apricots /bananas Drink – probably water

EVENING MEAL Soup – cuppa soup Main course – dried food e.g. Vesta / Beanfeast / Savoury rice / boil in the bag / pasta / camping food from specialist shops Dessert – biscuits / cake / fruit Drink – tea / coffee / hot chocolate

EXTRAS Sweets – preferably without wrappers Matches / lighter – keep dry Detergent and scourer Salt, fat and extras for cooking Plastic bags for rubbish Cutlery / bowl / cup

ADVICE Empty things into plastic bags and pots to make things lighter Keep instructions but get rid of excess packaging Know the capacity of your mug Save fuel by putting the lid on and using the simmer ring Choose items which survive being crushed Allow one and a half hours for cooking and wash up straight away
