1. UTILITY UNIFORM AND INDIVIDUAL COMBAT EQUIPMENT

2. Purpose
The purpose of this tutorial is to provide the student with knowledge of the proper marking, care, and wear of Marine Corps uniform items.

3. LEARNING OBJECTIVE:
Identify the proper wear and care of United States Marine Corps uniform components and items

4. The Utility Uniform
There are two basic styles of camouflaged utilities
Hot weather (woodland/poplin)
Digital (woodland/desert)
The camouflage utility uniform is designed for field wear and should be loose fitting and comfortable

7. Wearing of the Utility Uniform and its Components

8. Camouflage Utility Coat
Will be loose fitting to allow for movement and some shrinkage.
Navy personnel are authorized to wear the USMC emblem.
The coat will be worn outside the trousers with sleeves either rolled up or left down.

9. Camouflage Utility Coat (cont.)
When sleeves are rolled up, they will be rolled with the inside out, forming a roll about three inches wide, and terminating at a point about two inches above the elbow.

10. Camouflage utility trousers:
The trousers will also be fitted loosely.
The trousers will be bloused in a neat uniform manner.

11. Boots:
The standard infantry combat boot or jungle hot weather boot will be issued/sold through the Marine Corps Supply System.

12. Utility Cap
The garrison cap will be worn centered and straight with the tip of the visor in line with the eyebrows without the USMC logo.
When outdoors, you should remain covered.
The cap should only be removed outdoors during religious ceremonies not associated with an official ceremony.

13. Headgear is normally removed when indoors
If in a duty status you will remain covered except when entering a space where a meal is in progress or religious services are being conducted.
Headgear WILL be worn in Government vehicles, and in privately owned vehicles on base.

14. Webbed belts Belts will be worn at the natural waistline.
Black web belt with plain silver buckle will be worn with utility uniform. E-7 and above wear khaki belt with gold buckle.
USMC Martial Arts belts can be worn when qualified

15. Undershirts
Standard olive green undershirts will be made of cotton with quarter length sleeves and have an elliptical (crew-neck) collar.

16. Collar devices
The branch of service insignia (hospital corpsmen, dental technician, and religious program specialist) is worn on the left collar point, vertically with a vertical line bisecting an angle of the point of the collar.

Navy black metal grade insignia is worn on the right collar in the same fashion as the branch of service insignia.

19. Breast insignias
All breast insignia / identification badges authorized for wear by the Navy may be worn but only in the shiny metal (not anodized), vice subdued or embroidered versions.
These insignias will be worn according to Marine Corps Regulations.

20. Socks
Black cushion sole socks will be standard as issued/sold through the Marine Corps Supply System and will be worn with the utility uniform and whenever combat boots are worn.

21. Marking the Utility Uniform
All markings will be marked in a contrasting indelible marker or stamp pad.

22. Webbed belts will marked with the last name on one side only and as close to the buckle as possible

23. The utility cap will be marked on the inside of the sweatband

24. The camouflaged utility coat will have embroidered name tapes sewn above the top front pocket

25. A professionally embroidered nametape will be sewn over the right rear pocket.
The camouflaged utility trousers will be marked on the inside as close to the top as possible

26. Boots will be marked inside near the top

27. Socks are to be marked on the outside on top of the foot.

28. Undershirts are to be marked on the side back near the neckband.

29. The olive drab green crew neck sweater will be marked on the manufacturing label

30. Care of the utility uniform and its components.

31. Webbed belts May be laundered.
Shrinkage is normal in untreated webbing.
Belts should be washed at least three times before cutting to normal waist size.

32. Utility Cap May be laundered by hand or machine in warm water.
It must not be bleached.

33. Undershirts and socks
Will be laundered using the permanent press cycle or hand wash in cold or warm water.
Do not use bleach or detergents, which contain bleaching agents.
Tumble dry on the permanent press cycle, drip dry, or line dry.

34. Camouflage utility coat and trousers
To preclude shrinking use the lowest possible temperature setting
Some laundry facilities may not press utilities due to potential damage from automated presses.

35. Boots
Maintenance of leather footwear is necessary to ensure maximum wear and to protect the healthy, sanitary condition of the feet.
Foot powder should be liberally sprinkled inside the shoe to absorb moisture.
Shoes should be kept clean.
Occasionally, clean leather periodically with saddle soap, which is a leather preservative.
