2 Description on the pathogen & where it is commonly found  Inflammation of intestines that cause severe painful diarrhea  The pathogens found are Shigella and Amebiasis

3 Transmission  Poor hand washing & hygiene habits  Vegetables  Harvested in a sewage tainted field  Flies act as carriers  Water supply  The long term outcome are good. In some cases Shigella can cause Reiters syndrome and Amebiasis can spread outside the intestines into the liver.

4 Symptoms and complications brought as a result of the disease  Severe bloody diarrhea  Fever  Stomach cramps

5 Risk factors  Common in developing countries  Children 2-4  People working in child care facilities  Regular travlers

6 Testing & treatment of the disease  Symptoms resolve themselves on their own  Stay hydrated  You may be prescribed to antibiotics to help lessen severity and lengthen of illness

7 Prevention of the disease  Teach toddlers to lather up  Ditch the diaper properly  Keep pool clean  Be fickle about your food  Keep to your self

8 Current statistics  According to CDC 18,000 cases reported in the US  Mostly affects developing nations  According to Saint Anthony Cancer Center of excellence in the world there were 590 deaths caused by Dysentary

9 Affect the disease has on developing nations/developed nations and/or public health/ economies  This disease mostly affects developing countries, because their water supply isn’t as clean as that of a developed nations.  This disease is rare to developed nations but it still happens
