2. How Do Spring NWEA Scores Impact My Child?
6th Grade
Minimum requirements for Promotion (24th Percentile on Reading and Math NWEA and overall C in Reading and Math)
7th Grade
Scores will be used for High School Programs (along with 7th grade final grades)
Most High School programs require minimum of 24th percentile on Reading and Math NWEA
8th Grade
Minimum requirements for Promotion (24th Percentile in Reading and Math and overall C in Reading and Math)
Scores may be used for placement in freshman high school classes

Getting to the Next Grade
The Chicago Public Schools elementary and high school promotion policy documents include a variety of measures to ensure that all students are prepared for the grade to which they are promoted.
Elementary school promotion policy
The School/Parent Guide to the Elementary Promotion Policy is an at-a-glance summary of the Elementary Promotion Policy for the school year. The guide assists schools and parents in determining the promotion status of students in benchmark grades 3, 6, and 8 and the requirements associated with each promotion status.
CPS urges parents to closely monitor their child's academic progress to ensure he or she stays on track throughout the school year. Parents can assist their child in meeting the promotion criteria by reviewing homework assignments with him or her, requesting to see quizzes and tests, and maintaining communication with their child's school and teacher with regards to his or her academic progress.
Students who do not satisfy the promotion criteria above will be required to attend and satisfactorily complete Summer School in order to attain promotion to the next grade.

8. High School Program Requirements
Selective Enrollment Academies (Lane, Northside, Payton, Young, Lindblom, Brooks, South Shore, King, Jones, Westinghouse)
24th Percentile minimum eligibility on Spring 2015 NWEA Reading and Math
Points based on 7th grade overall Grades for Reading, Math, Science, Social Studies
Minimum cutoff scores (grades, NWEA and Selective Enrollment test)- Based on previous cutoff scores, students needed A’s in all 4 subjects and score in the 90th+ percentile (minimally) on NWEA Reading and Math and on the Selective Enrollment Test to receive an offer at most SE Schools
Magnet High Schools and Programs (Disney II, Von Steuben, Senn, Curie, RTC Medical Prep, Chicago HS for the Agricultural Sciences, Michele Clark, Harlan)
60th Percentile in both Reading and Math for Von Steuben Scholars
Selected through Lottery system
International Baccalaureate (IB) High Schools (Amundsen, Taft High School, Lincoln Park, Steinmetz, Schurz, Prosser, Senn, Clemente- full list at cpsoae.org)
Must have a minimum 7th grade GPA (grade point average) of 2.5 (Reading, Math, Science and Social Studies)
Minimum cutoff scores (7th grade overall grades and Spring 2015 NWEA test)- Based on previous cutoff scores, for Lincoln Park and Taft, students needed an average of A’s in all 4 subjects and 90th percentile.
Military Academies (Rickover, Ames Marine, Hamlin, Air Force, Chicago Military Academy, Phoenix, Carver)
NWEA percentiles that total 48 or more (e.g., 20 in reading, 28 in math; 10 in reading, 38 in math).

14. Are there Test Preparation Courses Available?
The Chicago Public Schools does NOT recommend, endorse or sponsor ANY test preparation courses, study guides, or sample questions for the Selective Enrollment High Schools testing process.
The admissions exams used for the Selective Enrollment High Schools are designed to assess your child's academic capabilities or reasoning and thinking skills. The Office of Access and Enrollment has not seen any direct correlation between student acceptance rates in Selective Enrollment High Schools and their participation courses offered by test preparation companies.
Please note that the Office of Access and Enrollment (OAE) department receives feedback each year from parents whose children participated in a test preparation course and were not selected for any of their school choices.
