A typical day in our Foundation Class… Welcome and register Phonics/ Circle- Time Child initiated indoor and outdoor play/ Mathematical/ Communication, Language & Literacy focus. Snack time Show & Tell/Snack count Mathematical/ Communication, Language & Literacy focus. Child initiated indoor and outdoor play Lunch Register Phonics Tidy away time/Story time and singing

How do we work? We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Curriculum We organise the children by key groups who have designated staff who support, monitor and document their learning and progress This is done through group activities, child initiated and adult directed activities.

Adult directed activities This is where we focus on particular skills we want the children to learn or practise.

Child initiated activities Child-initiated learning involves children making decisions about what they want to do, where, with whom, and what resources they will need. During this playing time, children need support from adults in a variety of ways to model learning.

Personal, social and emotional development This is pivotal area in Foundation Stage on which all learning hinges. This area covers managing their relationships and behaviour, and increasing their self- esteem and confidence.

Communication and Language Listening and Attention Understanding instructions and questions Speaking-Using vocabulary and talk

Physical Development Using tools & materials: dough, scissors, threading, cooking, chalks, crayons Large body movements- games skills, dance or gymnastics

Mathematics Counting, recognising numbers & sorting Shapes & patterns Measuring, weighing, time, money & games

Literacy This area covers writing, phonics and reading skills

Understanding the World Investigation ICT Constructing The world around them Cultures and beliefs

Expressive arts and design Use their imagination in art and design, music, dance and role play and stories.
