3 ISAF Olympic Commission Established: The ISAF Olympic Commission was established in February 2009 and is lead by YA CEO Phil Jones Key Aim: The key aim of commission is to strengthen the sport of sailing in the Olympic Games ISAF Income: Important to highlight that the IOC provides ISAF with 65% of its income – the commission estimate this to be worth well over 100m annually Current situation – while sailing has historically had good links into the IOC, and will be making its 26 th appearance in the Olympic Program for 2012 – a newly introduced Olympic Sport selection criteria by the IOC has highlighted some significant issues that need to be addressed to ensure its position in the Games moving forward Governed by the International Sailing Federation Competitive platform for both the world’s best Olympic Sailors & the wider sailing community Consists of 10 Olympic Class Events Sail Melbourne the first leg of the international series and the only leg in the Asia Pacific Rim Victorian Government secured event for Melbourne until 2011

4 Key Issues The key issues identified were that sailing; Had a high number of athletes and events in comparison to its broadcast revenues and spectator appeal It’s cost and complexity of the operation of the sailing competition presents challenges for the development of the sport; and That from a global prospective sailing was strong in Europe but significantly weaker in emerging areas such as Asia and Africa.

5 Action To secure its position as an Olympic Sport, there is a need for an over arching Olympic Strategy that will improve the sports performance against the IOC criteria and maximize the value the sport adds to the Olympic Program

6 Value to the Olympic Program The Olympic Brand - The IOC Packages a number of sports together to ‘sell’ to the global market. Collectively and the brand of the Olympic Games, IOC generates considerable sponsorship and rights revenue Olympic revenues - The greater the audience interest, the more valuable the rights to the various sports that the IOC is selling and the greater the revenue that can be generated Broadcast rights - Over 50% of the IOC income is generated from broadcast rights. The IOC Program commission therefore talks in terms of ‘.. The value that each sport adds to the Olympic Program. ISAF Income - It is from these rights ISAF receives 65% of its income Direct Impact -Sailing’s presence in the Olympics also directly impacts MNA’s and sailors through Government and NOC Funding in addition to significant levels sponsorship The Industry - Indirectly positively impacts the sailing industry

7 ISAF, MNAs and the sailing industry right down to the Clubs therefore have a collective interest in ensuring our position in the Olympics
