A class without borders
2
We are from Pragal, Portugal and our school is Fernão Mendes Pinto.
3
There are lots of people around the world of different races, religions, cultures, languages… A good place to know these differences is our school.
4
We attend the 11th grade, class 2 and we are glad to be a partner of this project. In our class there are 29 students: 15 girls and 14 boys.
5
Although we were born in Portugal, our parents come from different continents like America (Brazil), Africa (S. Tomé, Cabo Verde and Angola) and even from Asia (China).
6
In this year we have a new student who comes from China. Her name is Shuiman.
7
We interviewed some students (João, Núria, Nádia) who answered us. We also tried to interview Renan, who comes from Brazil, but he didn’t want to answer.
8
Do you like Portugal? Why? Núria: I like Portugal because I live here since I was born. João: I like Portugal because the weather is good and there are lots of beaches. Nádia: I like Portugal because our country is more developed than Cabo Verde, so I wouldn’t like to live there.
9
Have you ever been to your parents’ home country? Núria: I have never been to São Tomé. I would like to go there because my parents were born there. João: I have never been to Cabo Verde. I would like to go there, because the beaches are beautiful.
10
Are you used to eat some food from your parents’ home country? Núria: I have never eaten any special food from São Tomé. João: I have never eaten anything special from Cabo Verde. Nádia: I have already eaten the typical cachupa.
11
Do you think that your life would be better if you lived there? Why? Núria: My life wouldn’t be better if I lived there because of the differences among the social classes, which are extremely high. João: I don’t think that my life would be better if I lived in Cabo Verde but I don’t know why.
12
Do you think that your life would be better if you lived there? Why? Nádia: My life wouldn’t be better if I lived in Cabo Verde because I love going shopping and in Cabo Verde there aren’t many places to do it.
13
We also interviewed Shuiman and we got some interesting information, such as: each class in China has about 60 our 70 students and…
14
... they can choose the subjects they want to learn, they can’t kiss and hug each other. The population in China is about 14.000.000.000 people.
15
In spite of our differences we have a very good relationship. We are a very friendly class. We accepted well our chinese classmate and we are learning do deal with her personality and she is learning that our hugs mean friendship.
