For a fire to start…
To burn a fire needs fuel, an ignition source (like a spark) and oxygen.
Remove any of these and the fire will go out.

Emergency evacuation floor plans are posted in several places through out the building. It is important that you familiarize yourself with the evacuation plans for this building and those buildings you frequent.

4. Fire Safety Precautions
If you feel comfortable in using a fire extinguisher to put out a waste basket size fire, then do it.
Otherwise, start evacuating the building and call 911.
Alert persons in area- Direct away from danger.
Close doors to confine.
Activate the fire alarm.
Evacuate through nearest safe exit.
Move away from building and go to the assembly area.

Flammable liquids, gases and greases; kerosene, oil, paint, cleaning fluids, cooking oil...

If you see a potential fire hazard contact Darren or myself.
If there is a fire and you decide you can attempt to put it out, then:
Keep your escape route clear and your back to it.
Get within effective range but stay safe.
Always be prepared to abandon the fight - if you don’t think it’s safe, get out of the building!

Practice scenario
We are all in the conference room for a meeting and the coffee maker in the copy room shorts out. The plastic has caught on fire, the smoke is pretty thick and rises towards the ceiling. Since it is such a tall area, it takes a while for us to begin to know there is a problem.
We take a quick break from the meeting and Robert goes to refill his coffee cup and realizes we have a problem. Other people sense an odor as they head to the restrooms, but they think is the neighbor across the alley burning his wood stove.
Robert begins to enter the copy room….. What happens next?
Let me add another factor to this… we do not have smoke detectors in this building, so the fire might be further along before we know about it. And if there was a fire, would you know what to do?
Those of us in open areas will most likely know first. Those with closed doors will not be able to detect quit as readily.
