1Peter, #4- Suffering as a Christian Synopsis of 1Peter thus far: >Persecution is coming. >Christ suffered and so will those who follow Him. >You can overcome through holiness and right conduct. 3:13 - 4:19 is a continuation & completion of these themes.

Jas.5:11 >vv.15-16 Proper Provisions: -Sanctify Christ as Lord, Rom.10:9 -Defend Him to those who ask, Matt.10:32 -Keep a good conscience, Acts 23:1 > 20:20 >v.17 Proper Peace: -Do these things, then let God take care of it!

1Peter, #4- Suffering as a Christian Therefore, (chapter 4) Prepare! >Christ suffered in the flesh- so will you, v.1 >live not in the flesh, but in the spirit, v.2 >You should have already! v.3 >When you live in the spirit, it will cause animosity from those who don’t. v.4 >They will have to give account- you won’t! v.5 >Because when the gospel was preached to you (when you were dead) you listened, obeyed, and became alive in the spirit! v.6

1Peter, #4- Suffering as a Christian Final Preparations, 4:7-11 >are necessary for the end is at hand, v.7a >be of sound judgment, sober spirit, and dedicate yourself to prayer, v.7b >love one another, v.8 >show your love for one another through hospitality, v.9 >use what gift(s) God gives you for His purposes, vv.11-12

1Peter, #4- Suffering as a Christian Final Preparations, 4:12-16 >to be fore-warned is to be fore-armed, v.12 >to the degree you share Christ’s suffering, keep on rejoicing! v.13 How? Know that: -if you are reviled by men, you are blessed by God! v.14 -if you suffer as a Christian, you can glorify God! vv.15-16

1Peter, #4- Suffering as a Christian The Warning, 4:17-18 >Judgment, as used in v.17, denotes severe trial. >Their persecution & trials would in effect be a judgment. >It was then the season for it. Meaning? -If Christians would be saved only when they faithfully endured persecution, -what would be the outcome for those who were never saved ??? v.18
