O God, who open your Kingdom to those who are humble and to little ones, lead us to follow trustingly in the little way of Saint Thérèse, so that through her intercession we may see your eternal glory revealed. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. TODAY’S PRAYER St. Thérèse of Lisieux (1873-1897)

GENESIS 3 – MEMORABLE QUOTATIONS “Now the snake was the most cunning of all the creatures that the L ORD God had made” (v. 1). The snake’s question: “Did God really say, ‘You shall not eat from any of the trees in the garden’” (v. 1)? The woman’s response: “We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden; it is only about the fruit of the tree in the middle of the garden that God said, ‘You shall not eat it or even touch it, or else you will die’” (v. 2). The truth of the matter The tree in the middle of the garden is the tree of life (Gen. 2:9). The tree that has eating restrictions on it is the tree of the knowledge of good and evil (Gen. 2:17), which Genesis never says explicitly is in the middle of the garden. God’s command concerning that tree: “From that tree you shall not eat; when you eat from it, you shall die” (Gen. 2:17).

GENESIS 3 – MEMORABLE QUOTATIONS “God knows well that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened and you will be like gods, who know good and evil” (v. 5). “So she took some of its fruit and ate it; and she also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it” (v. 7). “When they heard the sound of the L ORD God walking about in the garden at the breezy time of the day, the man and his wife hid themselves from the L ORD God among the trees of the garden” (v. 8). “Where are you” (v. 9)? Folan’s saddest verse in the Bible: “I heard you in the garden; but I was afraid, because I was naked, so I hid” (v. 10). “The woman, whom you put here with me – she gave me fruit from the tree, so I ate it” (v. 12).

FOR HOMEWORK TOMORROW… Print the preceding slide (i.e., the slide that has a square in which the word “plot” is written), and write appropriate words next to the arrows. If you feel bold, draw other arrows off those words accordingly. If you cannot print the slide, then draw a box on looseleaf and complete the assignment that way.
