2 What are SATS? KS2 Sat’s are taken by pupils in Year 6 as part of a National Curriculum assessment Programme. Standard Assessment Tests

4 How is SATS week organised? Timetable All children sit the tests at the same time. Children are divided into groups for test administration to ensure they are properly supported and feel secure.

5 Monday 11 th May 2015 Reading comprehension Tuesday 12 th May 2015 Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation (SPAG) Wednesday 13 th May 2015 Mental Maths Maths-Test A Thursday 14 th May 2015 Maths Test B

6 What are the children assessed in? Writing Reading Grammar Maths

7 Reading 15 minutes to read the reading booklet. 45 minutes to answer the questions. Children are allowed to refer to the reading booklet during the test. No adult help. Marked out of 50

8 Types of questions Literal- answer is there in the text Deductive-look for clues Inferential-read between the lines Authorial intent- why does the read use a particular word?

9 How can parents help with reading? Ensure your child reads every night Encourage your child to read fiction and non fiction. Try to listen to your child read and ask them questions about the text. Book Reviews Comprehension homework

10 Maths Mental Maths test Two written test papers ( Test A and Test B) Mental Maths marked out of 20. Each paper is marked out of 50.

11 Some questions are worth one mark and therefore accuracy is important. Other questions are worth two marks and even if the answer is wrong, a mark maybe given for correct working out. Teachers may read the questions in both written papers if the pupil asks.

12 How can parents help with Maths? Support with homework(even reading the questions can really help!) Maths fact recall Go through old past papers that are sent home from school. Mathletics

13 SPAG Spelling Punctuation And Grammar Spellings are marked out of 20 Grammar marked out of 50.
