Attendance –18 members, 4 Guests; Fonda’s husband Larry Bowden,

and Sam McGrew’s guests;

Lions Report – Pat Bryan reported Paul Coleman lost his balance and fell last week but he is ok. If you are ill or know a fellow Lion who is under the weather, please call Pat Bryan at 586-4535.

Announcements: President Garrelts thanked Charlie Osborne for presiding over the meeting last week in his absence. He reminded us Candy Day, October 11 and 12, is coming up. The Faith United Methodist Church on Prospect in Champaign is hosting a low vision fair, October 2 between 10 am and 2 pm. Lions have been invited to participate. If you can volunteer, please let Weldon know.

David Lin said we have a full, busy schedule on Friday. Saturday is a lighter day with only Sam’s Club and Savoy Wal-Mart have been already been reserved by the Boy Scouts. He is hoping we can get the Champaign Wal-Mart. A sheet was circulated today to begin signups.

Program – Sam McGrew introduced today’s speakers who really needed no introduction; Jim Turpin,

and Loren Tate.

Jim said today their topic was titled “Two Grumpy Old Men Talk Sports.”

They try to stay objective even when we lose because people complain if they say anything “against” the players.

They shared their thoughts on football, basketball, volleyball and baseball.

We learned about “thudding” instead of tackling used in practice to avoid injuries. They “hit but don’t grab.”

They discussed recruiting, season schedules, coaches and chances of getting into the tournaments.

The football team has to win enough to get into the regional tournament because Illinois is hosting it.

Several minutes were spent answering our many questions.

Football Guessing– Football Swami Tom Yaxley said our club came in 3 rd last week and we are in 3 rd place overall. This past week low scorers were Omer Benn, Ted Gonsiorowski, Paul Kunkel, Rich King, Ed Tichenor and Tom Yaxley with only 6 right.

Tailtwister – Tailtwister Tom Yaxley fined Rich King and asked him to carry the bucket.

All of the low scoring football guessers paid.

He fined everyone at Tom Yaxley’s table and made them pay for his birthday.

He fined Gordie for not having a lottery today.

Tom Yaxley…

and Frank Duff paid because they forgot the meeting was at the Regent and they went to the Windsor today first.
