Today – Monday, February 11, 2013 Warm Up: Simplifying Radicals Learning Target : Review for Ch. 6 Quiz CHAPTER 6 QUIZ TODAY! All Chapter 6 Assignments Due TODAY!
2
WARM UP: Simplify the following radicals
3
REVIEW 6.1: RATIOS, PROPORTIONS AND GEOMETRIC MEAN
4
RATIO: Comparison of 2 values written as a fraction in lowest terms with similar units. GEOMETRIC MEAN: A special proportion- Denominator of the first fraction and numerator of the second fraction are equal. Where a and b are numbers. Solve proportions and geometric means by CROSS MULTIPLICATION!
6
PRACTICE: Find the geometric mean of the following numbers.
7
REVIEW 6.2: PRACTICE USING PROPERTIES OF PROPORTIONS
8
PROPERTIES OF PORPORTIONS:
10
REVIEW 6.3: SIMILAR FIGURES
11
SIMILAR POLYGONS: two polygons that have congruent corresponding angles and side lengths are proportional. SCALE FACTOR: the ratio of the lengths of two corresponding sides of two similar polygons.
12
PRACTICE: Determine whether the polygons are similar. If they are write a similarity statement and find the scale factor. Check that the ratios of the corresponding side lengths are equal.
14
REVIEW 6.4 & 6.6: ANGLE/ANGLE SIMILARITY POSTULATE TRIANGLE PROPORTIONALITY THEOREM
15
ANGLE/ANGLE SIMILARITY POSTULATE: If two angles of one triangle are congruent to two angles of another triangle, then the two triangles are similar. TRIANGLE PROPORTIONALITY THEOREM: If a line parallel to one side of a triangle intersects the other two sides, then it divides the two sides proportionally. CONVERSE OF THE TRIANGLE PROPORTIONALITY THEOREM: If a line divides two sides of a triangle proportionally, then it is parallel to the third side.
16
PRACTICE: Determine whether the triangles are similar. If they are, write a similarty statement. Explain your reasoning.
17
Write a proportion using Triangle Proportionality Theorem Substitute known values Cross Multiply and check that they are equal.
