Forward-Looking Leadership Being more mindful of the present Stop, Look, & Listen for creative solutions to today’s problems Ask “what will we be doing after the project is completed?”

Vision Wanting improvement What does “new & improved” mean to others? It’s not just the leader’s vision, it’s the people’s vision

Inspiring a Shared Vision Examine these three statements : –I describe a compelling image of what the future could be like. –I appeal to others to share an exciting dream of the future. –I show others how their long-term interests can be realized.

Leaders are Followers, Too! What leaders should follow: –Clear values and beliefs that are consistent with their own (Consciousness of Self) –A vision of the future that they share (Common Purpose) –Creative ideas that enable the organization to make change so that the values and vision can be realized (Controversy with Civility) –Other people whose strengths and talents contribute to the enactment of the values and vision (Collaboration)

Leaving a Legacy Our own legacies are built on the legacies of those who have come before us and those who labor alongside us
