The Project ’ Let ’ s try degrowth ’ involved three schools:

Peter-Paul-Rubens-Gymnasium,in Siegen (Germany) http://www.pprgymnasium.de/

ROUNDHAY SCHOOL IN LEEDS http://www.roundhayschool.org.uk/

ATHENEE MIXTE WAROCQUE, IN MORLANWELZ, BELGIUM http://www.atheneewarocque.com/

One of the aims of the project was to compare our respective experiences and plan actions to improve the situation. The national exchange increased our knowledge of the other participating countries as far as environmental problems were concerned :

ENERGY

As far as degrowth of energy is concerned, we mean how different countries try to reduce the world resources by adopting measures to reduce our consumption of gas, electricity, by using alternative power stations, by finding a new way of living.

For example : The English and German students attended the physics course: the manufacturing and using of economic light bulbs They visited the wind power farm in Estinnes. T he wind farm is the first large-scale on-shore facility in Belgium

In Germany, the Belgian and English students attended a chemistry lesson on the biomass. In Britain the Belgian and German students visited a permaculture farm

MOBILITY

For example: In Belgium: Cruise on the canals, visit of historic Canal du Centre and its old-century boat lifts classified as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, visit ofthe Str é py-Thieu giant boat lift

WASTE

In our society, even if policies are taken to avoid and recycle waste as much as possible, it is first important to show students the quantity of waste being produced, wasted and recycled. The solution would be to avoid buying unnecessary objects or to reduce them.

For example: In Belgium and Germany, the students visited recycling centres

FAIR TRADE

Consuming should raise questions: where does the product come from? Who made it? Is it eco-friendly? Fair trade at school is part of an education of responsible citizens

The students attended a football workshop in Leeds

FOOD

To reduce our consumption of meat, why not try insects?

For a better world... Through the partnership and the different worshops we try to be aware of the different environmental problems and to find actions to reduce our impact, our ecological footprint.
