Friday, 2/13/2015 is the last day of the 4 th 6 weeks. Monday, 2/16/2015 is a student holiday Test corrections – Need to be done this week Unit 5 – Linear functions and Applications Start slope-intercept form Human slope

Linear functions – is a function that graphs a line. Parent function – is the simplest equation of a function. The linear parent function is y=x or f(x)=x Linear equations model linear functions. In a linear equation, the variable cannot be raised to a power other than 1.
6
Slope-Intercept form is y=mx+b
7
Locate the x and y axis Number all 4 ways starting from the origin. (0,0) Need Packet and Pencil
8
Assigned x-coordinate________ If y=x, then your y-coordinate is equal to the x-coordinate. X-coordinate is _____ which is also _____. Ordered pair is (____,____)
9
What is your equation? Graph what you see.
10
Assigned x-coordinate________ If y=-x, then your y-coordinate is equal to the negative x-coordinate. X-coordinate is _____, so y is -_____. Ordered pair is (____,____)
11
What is your equation? Graph what you see.
12
Assigned x-coordinate________ If y=x+3, then your y-coordinate is equal to the x-coordinate plus 3. X-coordinate is _____, so y is _____+3. Ordered pair is (____,____)
13
What is your equation? Graph what you see.
14
Assigned x-coordinate________ If y=x – 3, then your y-coordinate is equal to the x-coordinate minus 3. X-coordinate is _____, so y is x – _____. Ordered pair is (____,____)
15
What is your equation? Graph what you see.
16
Assigned x-coordinate________ If y=3x, then your y-coordinate is equal to the 3 multiplied by the x-coordinate. X-coordinate is _____, so y is 3 _____. Ordered pair is (____,____)
17
What is your equation? Graph what you see.
18
Assigned x-coordinate________ If y= ⅓ x, then your y-coordinate is equal to the ⅓ multiplied by the x-coordinate. X-coordinate is _____, so y is ⅓ _____. Ordered pair is (____,____)
19
What is your equation? Graph what you see.
20
Let’s look back at the graphs and compare. What do you notice? What do you think the reason for the difference? y=x and y=-x ____________________________________
