You May Need A Rubric: If students frequently ask how you “got” their grade. If complex assignments are often completed incorrectly. If you grade the last project and aren’t sure your grading has been consistent. If your desk is buried under piles of student projects waiting to be graded.

To Create a Rubric: Determine the concepts to be taught. What are the essential learning objectives? Choose the criteria to be evaluated. Name the evidence to be produced.

Creating cont’d Share the rubric with students before they begin the project. Evaluate the end product. Compare students' work with the rubric to determine whether they have mastered the content.
