Disciplines in Competitive Cycling Road Cycling Road cycling is done on paved road. Bicycle is generally unsuspended and built light and stiff. Races such as Le Tour de France, Paris Roubaix and Tour of Califonia. Typical wheel size is 700c. Races are sanctioned by UCI.UCI

Disciplines in Competitive Cycling Mass Start Mass start races are flagged off simultanously Typical race length of 40km to 250km covered per day. Done on rolling terrain, hills are typical

Disciplines in Competitive Cycling Off Road Cycling Off Road Cycling are done with heavier built bicycle normally built from aluminium. Recent development of carbon fibre allows the off road bicycles to be built light. Done on un paved road Required higher level of technical handling skill than road cycling

Disciplines in Competitive Cycling Cyclo Cross Cyclo cross is similar to mass start race in road cycling, except it is done on cross country terrain. Bicycle wheels size are typically 700c Requires a fair bit of running

Disciplines in Competitive Cycling Downhill raceing The time trial version of off road cycling Riders dispatch one at a time. The course is very techincal with steep drops and rough decents Typical racing length is approximate 3 minutes Full suspension bicycle with at least 8 inches of travel is common Click photo to see race.
