The training program will now resume
3
Advanced User Training Now for the interesting part: “Field Programming” S C P I
4
Advanced User Training OK, you asked for it The truth is that once you practice this procedure on an empty channel, you’ll find it follows very predictable steps from operation to operation [Page Up] or NEXT
5
You need to know these things to enter a channel: Advanced User Training Whether this is to be included in the Scan List S C P I [Page Up] or NEXT Whether this is a Narrow or Wide Band FM channel [Page Up] or NEXT A name for this channel up to 10 characters long [Page Up] or NEXT The TX & RX frequencies and subaudable tone [Page Up] or NEXT Is this channel already programmed in this radio? [Page Up] or NEXT
6
Advanced User Training Let’s first dial up the radio frequency Move the EDIT switch to the LEFT this time We’ll call this the EDIT CHannel selection [Page Up] or NEXT The DISPlay switch now shows what it is that you’re changing - The name display, transmit frequency, receive frequency, etc [Page Up] or NEXT
7
Advanced User Training We’ll start with the DISPlay switch in the r [Page Up] or NEXT We learned that the DISPlay switch in the (RX) position shows the Receive frequency [Page Up] or NEXT It’s the same with programming: You’re programming whatever the DISPlay is set to show at the time [Page Up] or NEXT RX
8
Advanced User Training Being as the DISPlay now shows the RX display, we’ll begin programming the Receive frequency r [Page Up] or NEXT The NEXT switch chooses the digit to be edited [Page Up] or NEXT The SELECT switch makes the number change [Page Up] or NEXT
9
Advanced User Training After each digit is SELECTed, go to the NEXT one and keep going until the whole frequency is entered r [Page Up] or NEXT Then, go NEXT even further over to the right, and enter the CTCSS tone as needed. [Page Up] or NEXT That’s it for the Receive frequency [Page Up] or NEXT
10
Advanced User Training Now that we have an RX frequency, we’ll do the exact same thing for the Transmit side of the formula rt [Page Up] or NEXT Change the DISPlay switch to the right, to the TX setting [Page Up] or NEXT Duplicate the frequency and tone which was put into the RX side (unless the circumstance directs otherwise)
11
Advanced User Training The next step is to assign the Identification, Channel Bandwidth and Scan List inclusion SCSC [Page Up] or NEXT This step changes items seen in the ID screen, so we need to switch the DISPlay to ID to make these changes [Page Up] or NEXT Again, use the NEXT switch to choose which space to edit, and then SELECT the letter, numeral, symbol needed [Page Up] or NEXT
12
Advanced User Training For the time being, we’ll assume all field entries will be in Wide Band format, as used by our other radios at present The next choice is for Wide or Narrow FM channel width W SCSC [Page Up] or NEXT Select whether this channel is to be put on the Scan List for later use in channel scanning [Page Up] or NEXT
13
Advanced User Training W SCSC Finally, return the EDIT switch to the center position [Page Up] or NEXT Finally, return the EDIT switch to the center position
14
Take a moment to go through this informal check-list just once more, to ensure that the equipment is ready for action….. Setting Options w S C Mission-Ready Check List [Page Up] or NEXT DISPlay Switch = ID [Page Up] or NEXT Channel = Air to Ground or as directed by your local command [Page Up] or NEXT SCAN Switch = Normal (Not Scanning At This Time) [Page Up] or NEXT Guard1/Guard2 Switch = G2 or as directed by local command [Page Up] or NEXT Verify that you left : POWER = HI [Page Up] or NEXTrt TONES = ON [Page Up] or NEXTrt EDIT Switch = [Page Up] or NEXTrt
15
Final Practical Review …and now for some practical review of setings…. Page Up or NEXT
16
Press Here for Answer Final Practical Review You’re not transmitting CTCSS tone on your radio; Check and correct this no-tone-xmit condition Your ground team calls and urgently tells you they can only hear you when they use their “Monitor” button Why? Page Up or NEXT
17
Press Here for Answer Final Practical Review Pull, then move to the right, the EDIT/STep switch “How do I do that?” you ask. Page Up or NEXT
18
Final Practical Review Pull, then move to the right, the EDIT/STep switch Use the NEXT switch to toggle around until you find the selection for TONE control options “How do I do that?” you ask. “ NEXT” Page Up or NEXT
19
Final Practical Review Use the SELECT switch to turn the TONES ON “ SELECT” Page Up or NEXT
20
Final Practical Review Use the SELECT switch to turn the TONES ON Return the EDIT/STep switch to the Center Page Up or NEXT
21
Final Practical Review Page Up or NEXT Return the EDIT/STep switch to the Center Use the SELECT switch to turn the TONES ON
22
Press Here for Answer w SCSC Advanced User Training Name the things you need to know before you program a radio channel into this unit - The Transmit and Receive Frequency [Page Up] or NEXT - The Subaudiable tone (CTCSS) required Page Up or NEXT - Is this channel already programmed in this radio? Page Up or NEXT
23
Press Here for Answer Final Practical Review What else would it help to know about this channel? - A name for this channel up to 10 characters long Page Up or NEXT SCSC - Whether this is to be included in the Scan List [ Page Up or NEXT - Whether this is a Narrow or Wide Band FM channel Page Up or NEXT w

Conclusion It is hoped that this Advanced User Training will assist you in the safe and confident operation of airborne missions using this piece of equipment SCSC w This concludes Part II, Advanced User Training on the use of the NPX138N VHF-FM Radio
