Distracted driving is any activity that could divert a person's attention away from the primary task of driving. May include: Texting, using a cell phone or smartphone. Eating, drinking, or grooming. Reading (including maps), using a navigation system. Watching videos, adjusting a radio, CD player, or MP3 player. Broward Regional EMS Council What is Distracted Driving?

Teen drivers are most likely age group to be involved in a fatal crash involving distraction. In 2009, 16% of teens involved in a fatal crash reported being distracted. (NHTSA) 40% of teens claim to have been in a car when the driver used a cell phone in a dangerous way. (Pew) Drivers using hand-held devices are 4 times more likely to be involved in injury related crashes. (Monash University) Text messaging increases crash risk 23 times.
