Some Results from C5: Modification of the Current Draft Dr. Ted Lazo on behalf of C5
2
Need to Describe Framework Discuss the objectives of radiological protection of the environment, from the standpoint of the ICRP Discuss how RAPs are used to assess risks Discuss how RAPs relate to the protection of individuals, populations and ecosystems
3
Need to Better Link the Framework to the new ICRP 103 Approach Focus on the use of RAPs in the context of optimisation for the radiological protection of the environment Relate the use of RAPs to the three exposure situations (planned, emergency and existing) Provide some discussion of balancing protection of human and non-human species when addressing protection options
4
Relate RP of the Environment to Protection of the Environment Provide some words on how radiological protection of the environment fits into the broader picture of protection of the environment Note that the RAP approach is broadly taken from the chemical toxicity approach to environmental protection Note that there is no difference between RAPs and reference organisms
5
What are DCLs? It is not clear from the draft where DCLs fit into the overall ICRP 103 system. The nature of DCLs will be rediscussed by C5, and possible changes will be addressed 5
6
Future C5 documents Situating the Concept of RAPs developed for radiological protection in the general context of environmental protection: comonalities, consistencies, their limits and upcoming trends Publication on RBEs Publication on the RAP database
