18 Requirements for Non-Functional Eyewash Stations Procedure prescribed in Chemical Safety Subject Area See Exhibit entitled Permanent Procedure for Interim Administrative Controls in Case of Eyewash or Safety Showers Pathway Deficiencies Procedure Purpose Interim administrative control for a deficient ANSI Z358.1 eyewash/shower pathway - Access to a safety shower and eyewash must be barrier-free

19 Requirements for Non-Functional Eyewash Stations Use procedure only when the following options are not feasible : Discontinue corrosive chemical use Move corrosive chemicals to an area with appropriate eyewash and safety shower Install temporary eyewash and safety shower compliant with ANSI 358.1 design and capable of 15 minute flush Install ANZI Z358.1 compliant plumbed eyewash and shower equipment

20 Requirements for Non-Functional Eyewash Stations Applicability When eye/skin corrosives handled in closed containers or used outside containers in process that is not splash/vapor proof and: Eyewash or safety shower is not located within the contiguous room, and There is an obstruction in the pathway to the eyewash/shower equipment. Obstructions include doorways, stairs, equipment, supplies, or furniture, and There is a shower and eyewash accessible within 10 seconds (and 50 feet) with limited/no vision with the only obstruction being a door.
