Product Planning - Q1 2008 Technology Guide
4
New Emerging Technologies
Product Planning - Q1 2008 New Emerging Technologies Hybrid SLI Nvidia’s new Hybrid SLI technology will have two modes and that will target different applications: the Power Saving Mode, which will switch off discrete graphics core and use only integrated graphics engine when high performance is not needed, whereas Max Performance Mode will make integrated graphics processor (IGP) to assist discrete graphics processing unit (GPU) and boost performance when it is required.
5
New Emerging Technologies
Product Planning - Q1 2008 New Emerging Technologies Hybrid CrossFire AMD will be supporting Hybrid Crossfire through the RS780 IGP chipset to be officially known as AMD G780 (ATI Radeon HD 2300). This will compete directly against Nvidia's Hybrid SLI technology through MCP78 chipset offering. AMD is touting a ~50% performance boost in 3DMark06 by pairing up the RS780 chipset with Radeon HD 2400 discrete graphics card.
6
What Hybrid SLI/CrossFire will be doing? :
Product Planning - Q1 2008 What Hybrid SLI/CrossFire will be doing? : 1、Multi-Display (from both discrete & integrated graphics) 2、Power Savings(2D thru integrated core,3D thru discrete add-on card) 3、Performance boost for discrete graphics by linking up with the integrated graphics Performance boost will be up to 1.6x for entry-level graphics card (e.g. GF8400GS, Radeon 2400 PRO)
7
PCI-Express 2.0 Product Planning - Q1 2008 PCIe 2.0 PCIe 1.1 AGP 8x
Graphics Bandwidth Usage Bandwidth (MB/sec) AGP 8x PCIe 1.1 PCIe 2.0 1 VGA, Single Core CPU 2 VGAs, Dual Core CPU 4 VGAs, Quad Core CPU PCI Express Base 2.0 specification doubles the interconnect bit rate from 2.5 GT/s to 5 GT/s in a seamless and compatible manner. The performance boost to 5 GT/s is by far the most important feature of the PCI Express 2.0 specifications. It effectively increases the aggregate bandwidth of a 16-lane link to approximately 16 GB/s. The higher bandwidth will allow product designers to implement narrower interconnect links to achieve high performance while reducing cost.
8
Multi-card becomes the way to performance boost
Product Planning - Q1 2008 Multi-card becomes the way to performance boost 3-Way SLI CrossFireX™ NVIDIA is only promoting her new technology on the most high-end models like 8800GTX/Ultra, but may expand to other mid-range products in future. AMD , on the other hand, is promoting the new CrossFireX technology on all models, support max. 4 cards CF.

New CPU is the major factor affecting the motherboard sales
Product Planning - Q1 2008 New CPU is the major factor affecting the motherboard sales For Intel Platform: With the great success of the Core 2 Duo Series, the value E2xxx and the high-end Core 2 Quad Series, the Intel processors are now completely moving to the multi-core era. 1. The new Penryn Quad Core (Yorkfield) was launched on November, and with the new Wolfdale dual core processors, Intel is moving towards the 45nm manufacturing process. 2. Intel is pushing the CPU FSB to 1600MHz, trying to accelerate the transition of DDR2 to DDR3 memory. 3. The launch of Celeron Dual Core processors implying Intel is advancing her whole product line to multi-core, and may lead to another mass upgrade action.

Notes to Intel Integrated Segment
Product Planning - Q1 2008 Notes to Intel Integrated Segment From what we observed, Intel G35 is not competitive enough for its spec.: No HDMI; ICH8 South Bridge; Graphics Performance affecting by driver…… these factors make it “weaker” then expected. G31 will dominate 945GC because Intel is accelerating the transition of 1,066 FSB to 1,333 and 1,600. In comparison, Intel will enable the 1,333 FSB support for G31 officially on Q1 2008, oc is not required. With the Dual Channel DDR2 800 support, it provides a better spec. and compatibilities than 945GC with similar prices. MCP7A – a strong weapon integrated with GeForce 8 Series DX10 graphics by NVIDIA. And it will support the Hybrid-Boost feature, which makes it even stronger. It can be treated as an upgrade version of MCP73, and will be one of the most important products in Q

Product Planning - Q1 2008 For AMD Platform:
With the launch of Phenom (K10) processors, Socket AM2+, HT3.0, PCI-E 2.0, L3 Cache will be the major selling points. The market accpetance and sales of the new Dual Core, Triple Core and Quad Core CPUs will directly affect the platform motherboard sales. “Fully Support”and“compatible”are 2 different concepts. New coming motherboards will mostly support HT 3.0, and they are backward compatible with the current Socket AM2 CPUs (HT 1.0), both generations will work perfectly with full-performance on these boards and we call it “fully support” HT 3.0 & Socket AM2+. For those boards (both current and upcoming) which are compatible with HT 3.0 & AM2+ CPUs, they guarantee these CPU can run on them, however, the full power will not be utilized, that’s we call it “compatible”.
