The ‘New Curriculum’ September 2014 The government intend the ‘New Curriculum’ to provide more challenge Focus upon Content, knowledge and understanding, greater depth Broad and balanced Literacy - focus upon phonics/spelling, punctuation and grammar, breadth of reading comprehension, writing skills ICT – programming Humanities – focus upon British History – Geography – different continents Science – Thinking like a Scientist, studying Scientists – a core subject PE – Using Sports Premium for greater competition, participation and health RE – No change- multi-faith modules spread over three terms/ British values Maths – Concepts are being taught in lower year groups

Assessment Without Levels Why change? – Children being set limits – children not always secure in concepts The focus for assessment is based upon what the child does or does not yet know or understand and is measured against the content of the ‘New Curriculum’ in a child’s particular year group – Performance descriptors Pupils will need to be confident in all criteria to be at National Standard A child will either be Below, at National Standard, above National Standard or will have mastered skills knowledge and understanding Pupils who have mastered the curriculum in their year group will demonstrate that they are able to apply their knowledge in depth and are able to move into the content of the curriculum in the age band above Y1 ready, Y2 ready, Y3 Ready, Y4 ready, Y5 ready, Y6 ready Secondary ready Reporting to parents, what a child needs to do to meet or exceed the National Standard
