It does this by keeping the Superheat Constant where the sensor is mounted on the suction line (In a constant load scenario)

Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Expect more from us T-TE 2 Product Presentation - 2001.07.23, JBM page 13 Function of the T/TE 2 The TEV will try to keep a constant superheat at a constant load situation If there is a change in load the TEV will open more at increasing load and open less at decreasing load, and again try to keep a constant superheat The opening degree is decided by a balance between the opening force and the closing forces Pressure in the Power element is the opening force (Sensor temperature) Pressure from the refrigerant is a closing force Pressure from the spring is the other closing force
